musky truffle, black winter truffle

Brumale

A widely spread truffle variety throughout France, Italy and the Balkans. Lately, considerable amounts of this species have been excavated in Greece.

It fructifies in limestone soils like the t. melanosporum, with increased humidity and loamy texture. It is a very adaptable truffle to the various soil compositions.

Commercial value: Reasonably high due to the sweet, pleasant aroma and satisfactory amount of organoleptic elements. It is very often mixed with the precious black truffle, for lucrative purposes but their differences can be easily spotted by an experienced person.

Fructification: November - March
